On March, 2, 2010, the fourth grade students at Vinton Elementary were captivated by a fascinating presentation on Welsh history provided by the Madog Center (Welsh Society) from Rio Grande, Ohio. Jeannie Jindra eloquently described how the Welsh immigrants suffered hardships on their passage to America. she also told the students that they had originally planned to go to a Welsh settlement near Cincinnati, Ohio. After an unscheduled stop in Gallipolis, however, they decided to settle in this area. They chose the Centerville area because the hills reminded them of their Welsh homeland.
Sioned Wyn, a Welsh native, is working as an intern at the Madog Center. While making her presentation to the students she taught them to count to ten in Welsh as well as numerous words and greetings in Welsh. She also told the students about a Welsh Ohio internet site that she referenced during her presentation.
