Some people thought they would never see the time when Gallia County Local's two football teams would meet head-on. Due to a recent change in the OHSAA rulings adding a "jamboree event" for schools prior to the beginning of the regular football season, both River Valley High School and South Gallia High School are scheduled to meet in a pre-season scrimmage at the old River Valley High School football stadium in Cheshire, Ohio, on Saturday, August 15th.
The event will also serve as a "kickoff event" for the Gridiron for Gallia Campaign. The committee, composed of community and school leaders from both high schools, is working to raise funds to construct new football stadiums and other athletic complexes for the two new high schools opening this fall. The committee anticipates a large crowd for the event.
Among the events scheduled prior to the game are a hog roast and bean dinner ($5), cornhole tournament ($30 entry fee per team), basket games ($20 ticket), face painting, split the pot, and a dunking booth. These pregame events begin at 4:00 pm with the football game kickoff scheduled at 7:00 pm.
Anyone with questions related to the event should contact either Rochelle Halley, principal at River Valley High School at 367-7377 or Scot West, principal at South Gallia High School at 256-6379.
