Dedication of the Gallia County Local Schools’ two new high schools has been set for Saturday, Aug. 15.
South Gallia High School will be unveiled to the public in a 10 a.m. ceremony, while River Valley High School will see a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m.
The times were announced during the board of education’s regular monthly meeting Monday. The date had previosuly been announced during graduation ceremonies last month.
Prior to the Board meeting a reception was held to recognize employees who retired at the end of the 2008-09 year. Those employees recognized were: Joyce Thompson, Richard Harrison, and Virginia Gardner from Addaville Elementary School; Karen Wright and Roberta Wilson from River Valley Middle School; and Connie Bradbury from River Valley High School.
During Superintendent Dr. Charla Evans’ report to the board, owner’s representative Bill Davis, and Dan Roslovic and Brian Fraker of Roslovic Building Co., general contractor on the South Gallia project, presented an update on construction and answered questions. The new RVHS at Bidwell is set for completion in the last week of July, while the new SGHS is to be finished by July 31.
Attention focused mainly on the new South Gallia. Davis, who reports on both projects for the board, confirmed that South Gallia’s pace has picked up.
Originally scheduled to be complete in April, problems with masonry and other issues have delayed thw new South Gallia, but in recent months, Dan Roslovic, the firm’s vice president, and project managers have been more closely involved.
“They have improved 100 percent,” Davis said. “I am still concerned, just me personally, that it’s going to be close.”
